Subject: [K6NCG] Piece of K6NCG history
Hello all,
I built this stereo amplifier on the K6NCG workbench between October and
December 1965 as a Christmas present for my parents. Many of the parts came
from the shack stockroom which was generously supplied thanks to the Navy.
The design ideas came from the ET School textbook (it uses a paraphase
amplifier, remember those?) and tone controls from the 1962 RCA Tube
Handbook. Each channel uses push-pull 6AQ5s in the output. The Triad S-142A
output transformers came from? (a supplier near Weinsteins on Mission St. or
Market St.) in downtown San Francisco. RON CARMEN made many runs with his
car in those days for guys like me to buy parts. Thanks Ron! My parents used
the amplifier until 1985 but it still works today. Check out the technique
under the Bud Radio chassis and the original dymo labels! One of the guys in
the club suggested the separate power supply to help reduce 60 cycle hum.
Another project I built in a Bud Box was a 2-meter rig with regenerative
receiver but I never worked anyone except the hams at the club – I think the
RF output power was very small – don’t remember its fate. This may be the
last known piece of K6NCG club-built hardware??
Other photos ...... now & then, we're still a Navy family and my corporate
pilot days.
