Hi Dave Sublette,
I met Judith Stanek in 1962 on Melbourne Beach Florida, Her father was CTCM retired Lester Stanek. His call sign W4NWY and his last duty station was in Japan. I was then stationed at Cape Canaveral where I rode 13 FBM Submarines to test the launch capabilities of the equipment and crews. My first Duty was on USNS Bowditch T-AGS-21 and in early 1961 in Trondheim Norway I went to see a cross country ski meet, and while there I slid on ice and bumped an elderly Gentleman and in my best Norsk I said Excuse me, he replied "It is not a problem," in perfect English. A few months later I walked by a travel shop and there was a poster with his picture on it. I asked my girlfriend "Who is this man?" Her reply " Oh that is our King. (Olav I learned later) and he bought me a cup of Coffee in the ski shack. ETR3 has coffee on the King.... I was in awe later.
