MY absolute favorite story, involves Dave Sublette (then K9IHG, now K4TO).
It was 1962, and he'd just put together a Heathkit MT-1 "Cheyenne"
transmitter, and decided to see how it worked. He sat it on the desk in the
front area of the shack, and hooked it up to an antenna - I'm guessing he
was using HIS Drake 2B receiver... called CQ, and this guy with an
INCREDIBLY BAD fist came back to him... the guy was HORRIBLE, and we were
all sitting and standing around listening to this really TERRIBLE SENDING
and laughing.... Well, Dave puts the key further over toward the middle of
the desk, and gets up to sit ON the top of the file cabinet, and comes back
to the guy, sending with his LEFT FOOT (QLF?)... we almost fell down
laughing, and the guy gave him a 599.

It was wonderful.
