It was good to see that 28-ASR.  I often tell stories about that thing.  It
was George, K7WWA, Del Messmore (forgot his old call, now W7DJM), myself and
one other that went up a got it from a chief that was decommissioning a DD
up at Mare Island.  When we got it back we yanked the model 16 out of the
way, wired it up, cranked up the model 28, stuck the paper tape in the
reader and called CQ.  Flame on!  What a sweet machine.

My other memorable moment was running a phone patch between a scientist at
N0ICE (Pole Station) and CBS news while we watched the Eagle land on the
moon.  When we people ask each other, "What were you doing the moment Neil
Anderson stepped out on the Moon's surface," I can say that I was running a
phone patch at K6NCG.  Priceless!!

By the way, that homebrew amp was a pair of 4-400s, and was bullet proof.
It sure did the job.
