Hi Paul,
This is Desmond Crisis, I live in what I think used to be housing for
enlisted personnel with families. Casson Hall may be on property that has
been transferred to the U.S. Department of Labor Job Corps. Unfortunately
those BOQ's are pretty much condemned and have been boarded up for years.
The photo you want would be close to impossible to get without breaking and
entering. Job Corps is using the old galley to train cooks and the
transient unit barracks for dorms.
You were asking about the pier, it's actually south of my location.. It's
still here but has sadly gone into disrepair and is condemned. Many of the
pilings have rotted off and it's just not safe anymore. It must've been
great to fish from.
If you had ET school here, were you by any chance part of the Ham
club? I've been in touch with some of them and keep trying to organize a
field day from the site of the old shack. The building is gone but the
base of the old tower is still there and it still has "K6NCG Forever" and a
number of the members callsigns legible! What a thrill it was to find
that. I'd been looking for years.
If you like to come visit I'd love to tour the island and trade
stories. Let me know.
