I was stationed there when they poured the concrete for that base; it
would have been in late 1971.   As I recall, saltwater slowly seeped
into the hole prior to pouring concrete.  And I vaguely recall the
ground being moistened with urine greatly diluted with beer the night
prior to pouring the concrete  :-D
