Here is a QRP-L note, edited from k4fh regarding use of knots and antenna
lines. Good time to review the ancient art of how to tie a rope knot, we
might need the information on Field Day.

Are you planning to attend? We need to hear from you.

A thread on a local list was started about knots. I mentioned that it
would be nice if we gave a class on antenna rigging. Well, guess who
was voluntold?

I need to identify knots that are useful and are best. I only tie the
knots I know best.

For temporary guy lines I use taught-line hitches. These allow me to
set the guys then slide them to tighten.

When connecting any guy lines to holes, rings, etc on end insulators or
a guying bracket I use a bowline. These are used for sail lines so this
is what I know to do. It provides a loop at the end of a rope. .

When joining two rope ends I may use a double or triple fisherman's
knot. The harder you pull on the rope the tighter it becomes. .

Many times in rope I'll use Alpine Hitches. I may attach a pulley in the
middle of a rope or create a loop I can run another rope through.

I don't think there are definitive answers but I want to provide the
best info I can.

Suggestions?

Chris k4fh
