Hi Ken,
Here is an update on the Internet linking project. Brackets to hold the
antenna have been purchased, adapted, and painted. Two brackets will be
affixed to the telephone pole and a 1-7/8" section of pipe will fit between
them. The antenna can be mounted on the pipe.
CompUSA had a Wireless card on sale this weekend for $7 after rebate. I
picked up one, which supports 802.11b and g. Jack, WA6JYU, has made a
short cable with a reverse-sma connector on one end and a N-connector on the
other. He also took the heliax home to fix the N-connectors.
Our computer needs an upgrade. It is a 300 MHz device, with only 64Mb
memory. The wireless connector requires 300 MHz minimum with 128Mb memory.
I may have additional memory here, but will put out an appeal to get a
faster computer. (Anyone?)
With any luck we should be able to mount the antenna sometime this week and
have a working link. It is time to begin looking at application software!
Skype was tested this weekend. It is very simple to set up. I am presently
looking at a program called "Ham Radio Deluxe" which looks very fancy and
apparently has remote control capabilities for the Kenwood TS-2000 among
other radios. Am not sure of the interface yet, but it shouldn't be
difficult. Also have a repeater controller that may be useful to control
the Collins AM transmitter. Will be looking at the detail this week.
