I was waiting for the ARRL press release, but it hasn't shown up yet. You may or may not know, but I will be competing at the World Radiosport Team Championships next month, in Florionopolis Brasil. This is an olympic type event, held every four years in conjunction with the IARU contest in July. I have been selected, along with my teammate Dan, N6MJ, as one of the teams representing the United States. At the last event, held in Helsinki Finland, Dan and I finished 4th in the world.

Here is the web site with information on the event:

For this event, the teams will be operating from randomly selected, identical stations consisting of a tribander, 2el 40M yagi, and dipole for 80M. All stations are regionally located. Additionally, callsigns are selected at random, the teams discovering their callsign only 10 minutes before the start of the event. We are not allowed to disclose who we are during the contest, so not to give advantage to any one "popular" team. This is to ensure as level a playing field as possible, so that the best operators will be the winner.

There will be 47 teams, representing all continents (except Antarctica of course), including teams from China, Europe, Oceania, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. We will be using special callsigns with the prefix PW5 or PT5 (I.E. PW5Z). There will be awards issued for working these WRTC stations; here is the announcement:

Dan and I are traveling to Brasil with the intent of winning, and we will do our best to do so. If you can, try to work as many WRTC stations possible during the contest, which will occur during the 2nd weekend in July.

73, Dave N2NL
