To the HWA general membership and Bill Smith,
I want to take this opportunity to clarify issues that were raised in a letter I received recently, dated 12-20-2005. Since this matter was brought to the attention of the general membership in the November meeting, I think it is only fair that the general membership are kept in the loop.
I will be mailing a check for my delinquent dues on 1/5/06 in the amount of $100. I do hope this is acceptable, as it is the next time I am paid. The reason for the $25 partial payment (with the balance of $75 to follow) was a show of good faith towards securing my membership with HWA. I apologize for not clarifying that. Thank you for returning my check.
With regard to the USCG tower and the installation of my antenna: Bill, you were informed prior to the installation of my antenna on the tower. Roger Sewing ZL2RC (former N6TNF), made the installation. Roger was not a member of HWA, but climbed towers and telephone poles for a living with SBC. He did use a certified climbing harness, hard hat, safety glasses, and climbing boots. He observed all standard climbing practices to ensure a safe installation. There was also a crew of HWA members on the ground helping. There were no objections from you or the membership prior to the installation.
The plastic wire ties you refer too, held the horizontal antenna arm in place while the steel clamps were installed to the tower. There was no need to remove the wire ties after the steel clamps were in place. There are also wire ties to secure the coax to the tower.
The last time the tower was climbed for me, was by Doug Sekashiro (KG6IAB). That climb was for replacement of the antenna and to inspect the steel clamps that secure the antenna to the tower. Doug was a member of HWA at the time of that climb, and is an accomplished climber. Again, there was a crew of HWA members on the ground assisting.
I do appreciate the HWA allowing me to site my remote input at building 549. I am also glad to provide open access to the 441.00 simplex input (88.5 pl) which links to the largest 1.2 Ghz repeater system in northern California and Nevada. It is a great way to converse with many friendly amateur operators throughout the state. As always, its open to any licensed amateur operator. Best of all, its free !!
Season Greetings,
Richard Young, W6GHZ
