Straight Key night is turning into quite a national event!
Picked up the message below off the QRP-L reflector; expresses =
sentiments exactly! The 40 meter band was hopping New Year's Eve, =
plenty of contacts. Although CW copy is better than ever, practice is =
still needed.
After a contact or two, turned attention to the URC-32. It was turned =
on the other day, only to find a nasty 120Hz hum. Strangely, it wasn't =
heard in the AM receive mode, but the hum was an unwelcome addition to =
the 600 watts transmitter output. A filter capacitor in the power =
supply was discovered open. The low voltage power supply unit is rather =
straightforward, 28 volts, 130 volts and 250 volts. The filter cap in =
the 130 volt section, a 40-40 aluminum electrolytic, was replaced on New =
Year's day, and the URC-32 is back in operation. Luckily, had an exact =
replacement in the junk box.
Just found a J-38 while rooting around the boxes as I clean up around =
here. Wonder if it can work with the URC-32? It has USB/LSB and AM, =
but don't recall a CW mode. Think you operate it in MFSK mode and key =
an audio tone oscillator to send CW.
Happy New Year!
Bill

SKN was delightful, and awful!
The delightful: So many ops on the bands! The QSOs
were actual QSOs! Long, rambling chats, about this and
that. It was as if everyone just slipped into some
easygoing, comfortable alternative reality. Truly a
treat.
The awful: My fist! Seriously...it was hard for
even me to listen to. I think it improved a bit with
use...but I am so glad that I have keyers and paddles!
Whoa! As Bill, N4QA, already admitted, late yesterday
afternoon, after pumping away mightily for awhile,
first he, then I, swithched back to the machine-code.
Aaaahhhh!!!
I almost wish there were more frequent hand-sent
code events...
almost.
oo,
LL
