I'm all for bookshelves and a library but I can't say that I'm in favor of
spending money that we don't have for a project that could be "home-brew"
Does anyone else in the club have access to wood and/or bookshelves and/or
other materials needed to make something solid and secure?
I'm in favor of shelving - I just think we need to be frugal right now.
Just one man's view...

>About a year ago, one of HWA's Founding Members, Len Spencer WA6CBQ passed
>away, and his wife has donated his extensive library to our club. We have
>large collections of QST's CQ, 73 magazines, Ham Radio magazines, ARRL
>Handbooks, and a number of technical books on electronic theory, math and
>repair. We have a very respectable assemblage of equipment manuals.
>
>It has always been my vision to build on the library at Hamilton. A good
>working library in my view is vital reference material if anyone is to
>build
>projects, antennas, or work on equipment. It is also a reference to
>Industrial America for history buffs. If nothing more, it is a lot of fun
>to look through the magazines for old advertisements.
>
>Space is available for a library in the equipment area, new walls installed
>by the Boy Scouts are perfect receptacles for bookshelves. One opening is
>9' x 7-1/2' tall by 12" deep. This space can hold three three-foot
>bookshelves. Another opening, by the door can hold an additional
>bookshelf.
>
>Two large bookshelves were to be donated to the club, but unfortunately
>they
>are no longer available. Instead, we need to consider purchasing materials
>and build the units. The cost is estimated to run between $200 and $300.
>
>One of our members has questioned whether we need a library, and whether we
>need to spend the money to build the shelves. He has suggested we discuss
>the issue on the reflector. This is certainly appropriate, I have always
>thought this would be an integral part of the club, but perhaps that is
>only
>one man's thinking.
>
>What do you think? Do we need a library, is it appropriate to spend the
>money for shelves?
>
>Please respond on the reflector, or if you prefer, email me privately, but
>this is our club, and we need to act together, especially on a big item
>such
>as this.
>
>Thank you.
>
>Sincerely,
>
