Yes, I guess it is time for a frank and formal discussion about our future.  I hope we have members joining us on line for this meeting with suggestions.  I am willing to run for secretary again.
Tnx,Tony - W1FHN

Subject: [K3VOA] Elections - The Club Moving Forward

Folks – Our constitution requires that we hold elections every two years.  The term of the current slate of officers expires at the end of this year.  Those currently holding office are:

President – Ken Claerbout – K4ZW
Vice President – Marc Poe - KC3DUW
Secretary – Tony Riggs – W1FHN
Treasurer – Mike Shields – KM4VVX
Trustee (license) – Huge Katz – K3HU

Those wishing to serve either in your current role, another one, or if you are currently not an officer and wish to run, let me know before our next meeting.  I have decided not to run as president for another term.  I have filled the role several times.  This last time because no one else wanted to.

The club is at a bit of a crossroads.  Meeting attendance and club activities are waning.  We seldom have business to conduct at our meetings.  Topics of interest for discussion or more formal presentations following the business meeting are few and far between.  I had hoped by using GoToMeeting these past two years, we could pull back in some of the members who have since retired and are no longer in the building, if for nothing more than to join us once a month just to say hi and rag chew.  Clearly that hasn’t worked.

Where do we go and what about the future of the club?  Even though our numbers have dwindled, those participating still have a healthy interest in ham radio.  For years we have had the best club station in DC.  In my opinion we have something worth continuing.

We might want to look at how we operate, like having meetings once a quarter, but make those meetings more meaningful.  We discussed having joint meetings with W3DOS and NN3SI.  The group from the Smithsonian contacted me earlier this month to say they would like to visit K3VOA some time and talk about joint activities.

Our first look at the future of this club, will be to see if we can come up with a full slate of people willing to run for office.  Then it’s on us to figure out how we can inject a little life back into the club, making it a little less mundane.  We can discuss this at the meeting on Monday.  But I would also encourage replies to the group as a whole, using this email, if you want share your thoughts or ideas.

Ken K4ZW
