Draft minutes of the February 3, 2015 meeting of the VOA Amateur Radio Club
(K3VOA)
Present were:
Gerhard Straub K6XH
Tony Riggs W1FHN
Kim Elliott KD9XB
Ted Schneider N8HYO
John Croft K3NJ
Mike Shields (guest)
Ian Keith N8IK (guest)
Alice Koffmeyer N5DXZ
The meeting began at 11:50 AM.
Treasurer's report: Finances continue to be in good shape. We have 18
members, 17 paid up, and 1 associate member.
Station report: We are waiting for good weather to work on the two meter
antenna, otherwise the antennas are in good order.
Old Business: There was further discussion on the possibility of getting the
Yaesu repeater. Since it has an internal controller which cannot be
bypassed, it presents problems with some of our operations. It was decided
that before we commit to a set amount to purchase it, we need to do further
research and discussion.
New Business: We are asked to check the table for QSL cards. If one has been
sent to you, be sure to reply.
There was considerable discussion regarding how we can get up to our ham
shack. The GSA has changed the stairwell gate code, thereby limiting access
to the upper floor (and roof) and is allowing us access only through the
freight elevator, which requires a key. This necessitates an arrangement
whereby someone with the key will meet people at the gate to let them in for
our meetings. We are hoping that, in time, we can go back to having the gate
code.
Kim Elliott brought us up to date on various frequencies in international
broadcasting that have been closed down. The bright spot being that Spanish
Radio, having closed a frequency two years ago, has reopened it.
The meeting adjourned at 12:25 PM.
The next VOA ARC meeting is Tuesday, March 3, 2015, 11:45 AM in the K3VOA
shack. You may call the shack via landline 202-203-4256 or via the repeater
147.045 for an escort into the building.
Respectfully submitted,
Tony Riggs - W1FHN
Secretary
