Fellow members,
Attached, please find the draft minutes for our last meeting, November
4th. I hope to see you tomorrow.
Tony - W1FHN
Draft minutes of the November 2014 meeting of the VOA Amateur Radio Club
(K3VOA)
Present were:
Tony Riggs, Secretary W1FHN
Kim Elliott, V.P. KD9XB
John Croft, Treasurer K3NJ
Ted Schneider N8HYO
Ken Clearbout K4ZW
Gerhard Straub, President K6XH (phone)
Hugh Katz, Trustee K3HU (phone)
Rich Firestone WR3F (phone)
Kim Elliott, VP, called the meeting to order at 11:51 AM on November 4, 2014
Treasurer's Report: John Croft reported little change in our finances in the
past few months, but the figures indicated we are in good shape. We
currently have 19 members.
Station Report: John Croft made an inspection of our equipment on the roof
and found a lot of construction debris, including a mound of tar over one of
our coax lines (meaning we can't move it), and junk at the base of a tower.
He found a braid loose at the base of the tower, so that must be re-clamped,
and also a broken guy wire to the tower, which may need attention. A
high-power line has been installed near our two-meter antenna, but John has
seen no degrading of our signal. All radios and our repeater are working.
John has returned two laptops to administration, but a third one needs to be
returned when John can locate it.
Old Business: Gehard Straub reported on the laptop he obtained for the shop.
We are awaiting connection to the VOA intranet, but don't know when that
will be. The laptop is located under the linear amp, and generally doesn't
need to be accessed directly. It is in sleep mode, and can be "awakened"
using the main keyboard.
Gerhard also brought us up to date on the December ARRL/W1AW 10 meter phone
and CW contest. He, Kim and ARRL's Mike Corey met. K3VOA is authorized to
operate on 10 meters during the 48 hour contest, which will be held on the
weekend of the 13th. Ken Clearbout will set up an operator's schedule. He
says he will also set up a CW interface, will switch the logging program
from our computer to the laptop, and will provide a standby linear amp.
Ted Schneider offered more details on the Arlington FM station he was
helping to set up. A waver for a possible move to a more central location
will probably be denied because it would be located too close to another
station on the same frequency.
New Business: There was a question of whether attachments can be made to
emails on the QTH list serve. If it is possible then things like dues forms
can be mailed out. BTW, dues are due next month (December).
John Croft indicates he wants to relinquish his post as Treasurer. Be
thinking about whether you would like to be elected to his slot.
Kim Elliott discussed transmission on a recent program of his of 8PSK, a new
version of PSK. A number of receptions were noted, but there were receiving
errors.
The meeting adjourned at 12:29.
The next VOA ARC meeting is Tuesday, December 2, 2014, 11:45 AM in the K3VOA
shack. You may call the shack via landline 202-203-4256 or via the repeater
147.045 for an escort into the building.
Respectfully submitted,
Tony Riggs - W1FHN
Secretary
