All,
Great things are happening at W3GXP. Still haven’t put together the R5 again but the 40m wire works great! I’ve just confirmed that I can fit an 80m wire in my yard. So that being said before the SSB Sweepstakes Contest in November there will be an 80, 40, and 20m wires up. Before the end if the year there will be a 10m wire as well giving me an antenna on all of the contesting bands. 40m wire is good on 15m being the 3rd harmonic so that’s taken care of.
This is a BIG step forward for my station! I wish I could fit a 160m antenna but that just won’t be possible.
Next year my goal is to have a power amplifier as well. I’d like to get the highest power output I can on 120vac. 1k watts is preferred but 800watts will also do. Very happy with how the station is coming along.
I’m looking into getting a v71a for my car so I can have a cleaner install and not hurt the seat cushion like I’m currently doing. I found one cheap on eBay I’m bidding on. 1k watts out of a mono band antenna should display great results even if it is warming the clouds. That’s not a big concern of mine right now as I’ve got limited space and working with what I’ve got.
Right now next on the list that’s guaranteed is QSL cards. I also think I’m going to see if I can find a coax duplexer so I can have a dedicated radio on 40m. I’ve got the 706 and the 891. The 891 will probably stay there as the 706 is all band all mode until I can get another HF radio. Maybe another 891 or maybe a 950 as the prices are starting to come down on those. Only time will tell!
