nice meeting with much enthusiasm on Monday.  maybe a bit long over all (I am in part to blame) but we had some nice interaction.

Fred showed off his cool oscilloscope - built from a kit.  I admit it is very cute!  But I need to think a bit what we could measure with it !  i suspect there are applications.

I was most impressed with the idea to build something.  It adds much to the hobby to experience assembly of something and putting it to use.
Here is a bit of a brainstorm of ideas - either individual or as a small group -- others can contribute ideas also !

1. QRP-Labs WSPR (+other mode transmitter).  without the case, relay board and several filters - a single band version is very inexpensive (available for new LF bands up through VHF).  I just ordering the GPS with it.  (also techies should look over his other wares - cool stuff for those willing to write some code also).

2. some kind of simple receiver. I am not immediately recalling anything cheap and simple, but I haven't researched the web.

3. for those folk into CW or learning it -- a keyer.  see fourstateqrp for an excellent one
4. ???
If someone runs across a simple project to homebrew -- I have a decent stash of parts so do inquire.

I almost brought my one tube receiver in.  Its just an AM receiver, built from recycled parts.  And it operates from only 12 volts.  It pulls in out-of-state stations at night.

Oscilloscope.  one can build lots of projects without one.  but they can be handy.  just mentioned I have a solid-state HP scope here - only 15 MHz but it is fast enough for most projects.  left behind by my friend, $50 to a good home if anyone wants to acquire a scope.

If anyone needs any follow-up from my briefing on antennas - do ask.

I hope everyone is enjoying some reasonable propagation.  It should improve as we get deeper into winter.
