Curt,
Ok yeah that’s probably true. Is there a filter I could get that would at least cut it down a little bit? If not what are the main things I should try to figure out what is causing it.

atmospheric and some noise signals tend to be spread so the level does not change in frequency. you seem to have something that varies quite a bit -- very likely manmade, and possibly from something in your house or a nearby one.

Curt,
Its only on certain frequencies and it seems to move up and down the band a disappear. We have just standard lights in the basement (Unfinished) where I have set up. I can hear the loud stations over it but there seems to always be a smaller station right on the edge of it. It's weird. I guess that’s normal HF sounds. Does your signal propagate better on those frequencies maybe some kind of atmospheric buffer to enhance the signal. Your defiantly right about the s meter. I would say its around an s2 -s3 on 20m. Everywhere else is either rare or hard to find. 10 used to be noisy as well now its quite same 6.

here the noise is not so bad now, maybe about S2 on 40m. late Spring and Summer due bring more atmospheric noise.
if you have high man made noise it can come from things like halogen lights (that use a poor power supply in each lamp, yet had them in my house when we moved in), a plasma TV nearby, or sometimes power line issues. do watch it over time. can you hear the louder stations above the noise?

Hi all,
I think I am hearing powerline interference on the HF bands loud screeching wind noises mostly on 20m and below. I was wondering if that is really what it is and if it is how do I make it go away. If its not is that just normal HF noise?
Thanks!
Kyle
