[K3PZN-List] CW Question

Indeed. I have a graduate level text on antennas on the shelf, but did not want to hit Kyle with it yet. I can remember making my first contacts about 4 decades ago with sn imperfect dipole so it can be done. A ham ticket is a lifelong learners permit regardless of one's trade.
I am imagining Kyle's dipole based upon his pre-install email perhaps not mounted in a straight line (??) And this would make its match strange across the 20m band, while a straight dipole appropriately pruned will cover the whole 20m band if its high enough above the ground. Btw Kyle is doing quite well as a youthful ham, and he is the only one we have at the moment.

Curt its a little more to it than that but for a good treatment of this may I suggest the handbook or the antenna handbook.
But basically the height above ground changes the resonance AND the impedance... the length of can change the impedance and resonance as well.

Kyle
A coax fed dipole only presents a good match on the band it is cut for, and also for odd harmonics. Also, how the two wires are oriented gets into the act. If the two wires get too close to each other the result is not so nice. As the earth gets into the act, the wire length needs to be adjusted. Also, a homemade dipole works just like a store bought one, so no need to buy one already made. A 20m dipole will not work much on lower bands like 40m, nor is it good for the rig.

Ok good I just wanted to make sure before I got fined or worse lost my license. Having tons of fun with this hobby. I can't get the 20m inverted V to tune to 40 is that normal? Planning on purchasing an actual 20m wire eventually to replace this home brew one that I built even though it seems to work good. Tuning is finicky some times.
