Pat-
Your emails made me recall a Raspberry Pi that was given to me three or
four years ago by my son. I searched my cluttered basement and finally
found it, a Pi 1 B with the slower processor and only two USB ports. I
fired it up and determined it was loaded with an old Debian OS release.
I downloaded Noobs and Jessie, saved the old OS to my PC, erased the SD
card and copied Noobs with Jessie to the old SD card, but couldn't
install it because the installation process required more free memory
than my 4GB SD card had remaining. So, made a quick trip to Staples and
came home with a 16 GB SD card (8 GB would have sufficed) and finally
got Jessie up and running.
I read that the new PI 2 is much faster, has two more USB ports and has
more memory, so I ordered a kit from Amazon containing the Pi2 and
accessories including a Wi-Fi adapter and a break-out board and cable,
and now have it up and running with Jessie installed.
So, now I'm wondering, "What next?" Where do you plan to go from here?
What type of applications are planned? Any ham radio applications in
mind? Are people interested in using the GPIO inputs/outputs? Writing
C or Python programs? Learning the Linux commands?
I guess this will all be discussed tomorrow night. See you there with
my Pi.

p.s.: This reminds me of Rich Mitchell leading a group in the club to
explore the Arduino several years ago. I still have my Arduino project
up and running. It was a dual synthesizer box containing two r.f.
synthesizers controlled by an Arduino board and my (and Rich's)
software. I now have in mind an interface between a PC running N1MM+
and MMTTY and a transceiver. The interface will accept data from the PC
and provide accurate CW and FSK keying and PTT to the transceiver. This
project may require more detail work than my old brain can handle right
now but it will be interesting if I can learn enough about using a
Raspberry Pi to see if it could do the task.
