Kyle has an element of concern that is not without basis-considering the current Geo-Political Situation in the north Pacific.  Love my Swan 350C, Yaesu FTDX 400, Hallicrafters SX 117/HT-44 and not to be forgotten, my old friends the Hammarlund HQ-110/Johnson Ranger 1 and the venerable Heath DX-60/HR-10 plus VFO.  Did not acquire these rigs intentionally or specifically for EMP potential...but.....it is a spin-off benefit.  Anything connected to a antenna of any description would be at high risk.  Don't care what kind of rig it happened to be. Not too sure how effective alumin. Foil, i.e. Reynolds Wrap would function as a screen Room.  Hope we never have to find out!!   I still know how to set breaker point sets on old cars.  Just did a "Forty-Nine" Ford Super Six with a Flat Pack single breaker point assembly.  Took three kitchen knives and a Match Pack to set it at .015.  The only other guy I know that could do it would be John Hart, K3KWO.  Hey John....We have employable skill sets.  Anybody other that me and John remember Timing Lights and Dwell Meters.  Regards to all.....Joe   K3FPE

Kyle is doing a good job staying current with the news as some of the presidential candidates have discussed emp, so maybe it could trickle to local government even if we may doubt the threat.  Lots of counter culture stuff on the web on diy emp preparation.  Yes we have plenty of more likely operating challenges than emp.  Yes except for maybe needing to cut the cord Scott has a cool idea.

Kyle,
The best way is to put the radio, power supply (ps), in a completely enclosed metal container, no holes for EMP to get in. So, easy way is to put radios & ps's in a container lined with Al foil, then cover with same and close it up.
Or, you could do this for each radio & ps just wrap it up in AL foil completely, if you're still worried, do it two or three times starting & ending at different locations around the item.
Who are you worried about generating such a pulse?

Hi all,
I've been thinking lately and want some of your opinions. God forbid we have an EMP (Electromagnetic pulse) all of our radios and power supplies and possibly antennas would be worth nothing but the copper value. So I know someone of you including myself have been slowly working toward emergency preparedness and I've been thinking. If something like that where to happen all of our radios would be toast. 

So what would be a good way if there is a away to protect our equipment from something like that so if one happens we can provide communications to fire dept. Police dept, hospitals etc for the public because no one else will be able to communicate. If it can be done to protect against EMP we should consider adding protection to the go kits around the county again so if something happens we can still operate. 
Just some thinking I was doing for a while and decided to ask the question
