Goog question and good answers from sage experts. Let me merely interpret, and maybe get myself criticized by these guys.
My experience is many 100 watt rigs can run with a 20 amp supply, especially my modern one. It will run on cw, rtty or ssb peaking at around 16 amps. At worse you could run at 80 watts and have no issue, and also rarely is there a noticeable difference between 80 and 100 watts. I can later explain s units and dB units when you are interested, the math is pretty easy and useful. Joe may be right that having a little overhead in the supply can improve signal quality. Since you have a 30 amp supply you are set anyway.
The switching supply you mentioned is designed for radio use and should work pretty well. In contrast a switching supply designed for pc use is usually too noisy for radio use.
You will find us to have differing operating styles and different practices on that fcc minimum power regulation. We have a few among us that mostly operate at around 1 kilowatt. I generally use 100 watts for cw and ssb, and usually less for rtty and digital. Myself and a few others will do qrp which tends to be 5 watts or less. Once I contacted Bosnia with a simple transceiver made from about 5 ICs running 300 milliwatts on cw. On the other hand, some nights I wish I had 500 watts to improve my signal on 160 meters, but I do work Europe there some at 100 watts and a few times at 5 watts. Voice tends to be less efficient requiring more power than cw and digital modes.

Subject:[K3PZN-List] Power supply question
Hey all,
I have 2 power supplies and thinking about them now I'm not sure which one to be using. One is an Astron RS20A linear and the other is a pyramid psv300 switching. What would you all recommend. I've been using the linear but with the switching I have 30a versus 20a
Thanks
