Folks,
Please give a big round of applause for those who participated in the Health
Dept. drill last Saturday. The honor role:
Fred K3TAZ and David WA6TKX (who captured the action on video) at CCC
Tom KC3CZT at Carroll Hospital
Tony KF3AK and Nancy KC3HEW at Century HS
Larry WX3F and John KC3FDL at North Carroll MS
Phil KE3FL and Kyle KC3FMP at Parr's Ridge ES
John W8IS and Jenny XYL at Winters Mill HS
To recap, all sites met the drill objectives for voice and data. Three new
operators were trained; they can now operate on their own in future drills
(and train others).
Tom KC3CZT did a super job as our net control station. Congratulations on
your new job, Tom; the pay is lousy, but it has to be more fun than your day
job...Hi Hi)
Thanks to Mark KC3EUW for developing the Quick Reference Guide for the new
kits. The QRG received rave reviews from all those who used it. Rumor has
it that the last two kits will be retrofitted in the near future, in time
for the next drill, so the QRG will apply to all sites.
The reports from the sites having permanent antennas were very encouraging.
Larry and John, at NCMS, reported hearing all the activity on simplex, which
is a vast improvement over the BuddiPole and J-pole antennas. At least five
sites will have a permanent antenna before the next drill (December 3rd).
Once all eight POD sites have new kits and permanent antennas, the
objectives can be expanded to include 6M and 70cM.
On the down side, we were unable to cover three sites, due to lack of staff.
We will do better in December!
[Side note to Steve N3SB: Get well and come back soon! I'm getting too old
for this.]
Thanks again to all who participated,
Tony KF3AK
