You have the right idea placing your antennas near edge of the circle. We need to do same for the others. Running any mode with S5 level phase noise is no fun. Been there once and took the blame. Last year we didnt have a czar and we ended up with cw and digital too close.
Maybe I will do the educational activity on phase noise and let someone else be czar.

Hi Kurt:
All good info.
As far as location goes at the site for cw, for nostalgia sake, my #1 choice is the usual back corner building. I can picture the antenna layout.

I don't yet know my own available for FD, but I am likely participant.
I see that we have enough rigs committed -- maybe 6A? (3 SSB, 2? CW, 1 digital) -- at least this seems to be our ceiling.
A few helpful (maybe) thoughts ....
(1) locations. a 6A FD is much more challenging than 3A. [we have not done well here since we have been back at Gamber, even under my watch]
- decent rigs have no issues coexisting on different bands! the last two years Ray and I ran two antennas on his mast -- a tri-bander and a dipole below. no issues -- even when I forgot to put the dunestar filter onto my K2 (other fine rigs would be okay also)
- however -- we MUST better separate digital from CW (last year digital and CW were next door!) and also everyone from SSB
I honestly suggest we cluster our 3 SSB stations close to each other - by definition they will be on different bands and won't QRM each other. Group these antennas together so they are thus as far as possible from CW and digital.
Co-locating 2 CW is no issue.
Need to find a third spot for digital. We can try to run digital and CW as much as possible on different bands - when we have 3 bands that are open. At night, we'll have to coexist. (perhaps we should shelter their rigs in visual site but move the antennas outward).
(2) get stations integrated at home prior to FD! need the log software integrated to each rig. S&P is much more productive with a working BandMap. ditto for band changes.
(3) I suggest we generate a few modest goals -- such as number of operators involved, number of operating hours, etc. don't want this to be like work - but we need to aim for something. FD needs to be more than everyone operating their own rig outdoors. I have seen 20 to 30 some folk at some meetings. Can we get 15 people doing something at our FD ??
With the rigs pledged and associated gear sounds like things are coming together.

yes WB8YYY is lurking in the background, as Ray likely reported. don't yet know my FD plans, but likely I can participate.
I see we have enough rigs committed -- maybe 6A if NY3A brings 2 rigs (TBD) and Ray/Kerri are able to participate.
A 3A FD is easy to plan, because we can arrange for the rigs to always be on different bands. 6A, with 3 modes, is much more complicated.
We never have done a good job separating the rigs since we have been back at Gamber. No matter how good the rig phase noise is, we can still locate the rigs too close to each other.
How we set up rigs? Folks pick a spot they like!
Also, a few of us have a phobia of interference from rigs on different bands. For any decent rig, this is not a problem! We operated two rigs from Ray's RV - with both antennas on the rocketlauncher. (A few among us insist on their own mast -- oh well - their problem).
However - 3 rigs on the same band - we need to separate them as much as possible.
What I think we should do -- move all the SSB stations as close as possible, and cluster their antennas together. CW or digital will drive them crazy. Move CW and digital antennas as far as possible from SSB.
(The SSB guys may not want to be shoulder to shoulder but we should try to co-locate them to keep their antennas far from CW and digital).
We might be able to arrange CW and digital to be on different bands. Still let's try to separate them a bit.
We need a plan and an enforcer for antenna separation, and to coach how bands are used by CW and digital.
I suggest we don't go crazy about whose rig is cleaner etc. Of course K3's etc. are better -- but I suggest we major on separating the antennas as much as the site allows.
I do wish the club would get some masts similar to what NY3A sets up. Steve will show up an hour before FD and be ready to operate when its time.

Steve-
Great to hear from you. Missed seeing you at Dayton.
Andy, please correct if I don't have the details correct.
If I remember correctly from last nights meeting:
N3VOP is setting up a station for 6 meters and HF digital. He'll be
operating digital on HF bands and will avoid interference with other HF
stations at the site.
WO3L is setting up a station in a trailer furnished by KD3UV and plans
on 40/15 meters CW and SSB. I think he plans on N3SB supporting CW but
I'm not sure that is definite. Haven't heard from WB8YYY but someone
said he is mulling it over.
W3JJH and son, William, will set up a station for 10/80 meters, and a
station for solar powered QRP for a few hours for the extra points.
Tony will be setting up a demo station for VHF and HF (Pactor) but will
only be there for a couple hours.
Plan B is for Ray and Keri (kb3vwk) who plan to come with their RV if
their granddaughter doesn't arrive in this world earlier than planned.
They will bring a rocket launcher and TA-33 Jr and will work 20 meters
SSB. I was going to loan them my FT-DX3000 but can switch them to the
K3 if you want to cover 20 meters CW. (We had problems with co-band
interference using the 3000 a couple years ago.)
I assume you are bringing a K3 with the upgraded synthesizers. I had my
K3 upgraded, including the new synthesizer, by Elecraft. Just got it
back when they announced the K3S. With the 20 dB lower phase noise
it'll be interesting to see how well two improved K3's operate on the
same band.
Let me know what I can do to help you set up a station.
