WE'VE HAD SEVERAL MEMBERS show interest in gathering. Yayyy!
The only issue is selecting the best time to meet. So let's try a string
of meetings with the FIRST emphasis on getting all folks up and run-
ing with a working Operating System (OS) -- and the latest OS version
at that -- on their Raspberry Pi, and THEN later we will show off our
applications and provide demos. Sound okay?
That is, we will get everyone on the same page running the new
Raspbian "Jessie" OS (which is the update from "Weezy"), regardless
of which particular model of the RaspPi you have (the OS is backwards
compatible). If you don't want Raspian Jessie then, please, just for the
club consensus, go get a second micro-SDHC card (no larger than 32GB)
just for our efforts. If you want to get a jump on this -- but you don't
have to if you are having problems -- then load the "NOOBS" on your
micro-SD memory card as instructed at this site:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/
Our first order of business is to make sure everyone has a well running
Raspberry Pi with the same (and latest) OS to start. So, bring your Pi
even if it has not yet been energized even once. We'll get 'er going!
But you will need to have with you some of the accessories, as noted
In my original e-mail blurb (reproduced below). Savy?
I WILL COME EARLY TO THE NEXT regular club meeting next month
on Monday, January 11. I'll try to get there at least a half-hour
BEFORE the regular 7:30 PM start time. We will pause for the club
meeting when it starts because there is a really good program
presentation planned on Digital ATV by a world-reknown ham in our
very midst. So you won't want to miss him!
By the close of the club meeting we will decide when to meet next,
which could be in Sykesville on Friday, January 29 at 7 PM. Or just
before or after the following club meeting on Monday, February 8.
Over January and February, we will get all the Pi's in the club up
and running like clockwork. Perhaps, some of them literally!
You won't be left out.
Thoughts? Thanks!

[K3PZN-List] CCARC Raspberry Pi Group Gathering

To all members:
I'D LIKE TO HOLD an informal gathering in January with Mike and other CCARC club members who are working on getting their Raspberry Pi single board computer up and running - as well as those who have it humming nicely with an application or two to demonstrate. You are invited! We will meet at the Panera Bread place in Sykesville-Eldersburg, and then any follow up in Finksburg later if we wish, based on interest.
For me, the best times will be after January 7, on a weekday eve (a Monday or Friday) or a Saturday morning.
Thoughts, anyone? Please send positive responses to the k3pzn-list.
Cheers,
Pat

P.S. I will bring an HDMI monitor, USB keyboard and mouse [and one other person too?] for those who do not want to lug those things around, but you will need to have with you your Raspberry Pi in a plastic case, a two-ampere (minimum) power supply with cable, a micro-SD card no larger than 32GB and a USB WiFi dongle. There's time to gather any compatible devices you need (from Adafruit.com or equivalent, see below) in time for our tech gathering if you order soon. Contact me off-line if you wish advice with these items. Patrick.L.Kilroy.nasa.gov e-mail.
