Eric
thanks for checking in!  you are just who N3SB is waiting to hear from!  (email him if he does not find this traffic).

WA3MEJ, Jim may also have some hardware.

I really wanted to make it to that presentation, but kid activities dictated otherwise. I have recently flashed a WRT54g with the appropriate software, and got myself a couple of appropriate yagi antennas.   I would love to set up a node at my location and connect to something, but looking at the map from the website I don't think anything is close enough.  Any follow up meeting or discussions planned at this time?
I would love to get involved with this.

The MESH net meeting was very successful

    - very high attendance    - potential to energize the club with a interesting and useful project    - potential to allow many members to participate to further a useful capability
While the actual, best use capabilities may not be absolutely clear, in plugging ham radio links into the internet, and allowing familiar hardware items to be used for this interface, it could offer profound impact.

Our presenters from Frederick County were 'off the charts' in practical knowledge and enthusiasm.

One presenter left enough hardware for us to get a link on the air!  N3SB is coordinating the club in this action.  We have several hams with significant knowledge that can jump in on this project, and at least one with candidate hardware to plug in.

My own feeble thoughts -- best to locate mesh net RF in places that can readily host the computing resources.  It would seem that tall buildings are more natural than towers in this regard, especially when they are sited in high spots.  It would also seem that these links can be much cheaper in hardware than repeaters.  what we don't want is a resource taking gobs of volunteer IT time, but perhaps a modest network will not take much to sustain it.
