If you're not hamfesting this, weekend, you can be contesting.
Here's an email from another Scott:

Hi Gang,
CQ WW SSB is this weekend! The following is from ARRL's Rate Sheet:
NEW HF OPERATORS - THINGS TO DO
"The most fun you can have on the radio" is often applied to one's favorite
contest but you would be hard-pressed to find a more popular contest in
radiosport than the CQ World Wide DX Contest. This weekend is the SSB
weekend - look for stations from all over the world to be piling in loud and fast. To participate, give out a signal report ("Five nine" will
do) and your CQ Worked All Zones program zone.
----
It is an easy contest to work and a great opportunity to collect countries towards DXCC, or 5 Band DXCC for that matter! Our exchange in MD is
simply RST in zone, essentially 59 05. The complete rules are here:

So, what are your goals? Work 15 unique countries during the contest? Maybe 25? Maybe 10 each on 5 different bands?
Here, I'm just going for countries. The score is an afterthought. The more countries the better on as many bands as possible!
Plan on jumping in the fray and having some fun! Whichever NEMARC member
works the most countries gets a giant set of kudos from the group!
Will you be operating?
