No it's not to replace the main rig -- its alive and well, and working much DX.
It's a 3 transistor receiver built from stuff I had laying around. The story begins back in my youth when I built a similar receiver. I remember lots of strange sounds it made - but no signals. Maybe I did not know how to use it! Fast forward a bunch of years .... i read about this regenerative receiver offered by 4 State QRP called the Ozark Patrol (made to function and even look like an early 70's receiver from Radio Shack).
I decided to homebrew one. This design works well in receiving shortwave AM stations - and to my surprise there are several on the air in the evening. Moreover, this simple receiver works better than that portable receiver I had as a youth. Those who have not used one of these don't know it can make lots of strange sounds - and one must tune 2 or 3 controls to get a station tuned in, Wow, when tuned properly the signals sound good. This particular design uses both RF and audio feedback in the first regen stage, greatly reducing fading (even more than my big rig). Anyway a nice radio experience! Yes eventually more kits will be available in case someone is smitten when they see it.
Nice to see the reflector live with 'QSOs.' (Toni - best wishes in conquering strep to get well soon).
Also in/around my shack -- a couple certificates and a plaque somehow arrived from 2013 Sweepstakes (surprise as I am not major league in these things, but I chose a couple less populated classes). My 'short' Beverage antenna is stretched across the yard again for the winter season (its probably around 260 feet long, it just fits from my front shrubs back to edge of the yard). Working a decent amount of DX on 12m -- just a vertical here that in theory is slightly too tall.
73 CUL Curt
