[K3PZN-List] K3PZN Satellite Station

I will volunteer to head up the satellite station
if you don't mind that many of my components
that I want to use this time are fairly new and
will require substantial set up time and a
possibly "clunky" break-in period to get stuff
up and running that I'd like to use (or abuse)
FD for. In fact, it sure would be nice if we
could make a real satellite contact in the
contest too! 8-)
I would welcome a full time assistant or two.
I'd be glad to teach the ropes in the process.
I have all the gear for portable operation
but require a FD area reasonably "clear"
of large metal objects like buildings and
portable housing. So, ...
WILL WE HOLD a group site visit one
evening soon so that all us station captains
can start staking our claim to the prime
real estate???
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Pat Kilroy

cool conversation. indeed a smaller FD is much easier to plan, that much I know.
like Pete, I am thinking that our rigs (FT-3000, K2, K3) have acceptable phase noise -- that the only problem we experienced is yours truly putting the beams too close last year. those of us EE types (and many other hams) know the RF reduces 4X when the distance is doubled. I did not do the math, but likely we had space in rules and at the sight to greatly improve our situation.
I am suspicious we can come up with a satisfactory arrangement for running 4-6 stations. Thanks for volunteering to consult with TBD field day chair on our station arrangement.
I do believe we can run at least 2 rigs on different bands on the same mast, at least it works fine for a FT-3000 and K2. Did you not do the same with 2 or 3 MP's last year?
Very possibly we can minimize our simultaneous band operations if we have a small enough number of rigs.
Great to find N3SB who has been missed recently due to other commitments and opportunities.

I'm a bit curious about which radios the PVRC deems acceptable for FD
operation.
I suspect the K3 is on the acceptable list. How about Yaesu, Icom and
Kenwood?
Any data on transmitter phase-noise for various radios?

Much of the radio equipment and antennas CCARC enjoys are on the forbidden list BECAUSE of the interference potential....and it would ruin people's fun to tell them "leave your radio (or antenna) at home".

Finally, working out an operational plan on the fly (you do the odd hours/I'll do even hours) is a good way to work out an unsolvable interference problem.
