nice to hear from you.  yes an amateur radio license is essentially a life long learners permit!  

yes I sense such a capability will be useful.  all of us are reluctant to say 'go' with high speed because many of us have jobs with long commutes etc.  (note also some of us are recovering from Field Day).  

I am suspicious something will emerge, and also that a few pioneers will get their links up and running before we get organized.  what little I know is that a few specific models of routers have been 'hacked' to employ software or settings for ham radio use.  

the club that meets at unallocated spaces has operated such links, and also note we have a knowledgeable ham in Frederick who gives presentations on how to do this.  

note the email from Jim in Finksburg who is ready to build a link.  

of course I suggest that individuals move ahead on this, and those wishing to form a working team for the club would be greatly appreciated.  I just can't take this on myself at this moment.  

yes I am thinking we have plenty of knowledge in and around the club to proceed with this.  it will obsolete our other capabilities yet nothing else is like this to move a lot of bandwidth over many miles.

I'll be honest though, I'm knowledgeable with computers and networks, but I'm totally green with radios + computers. I do have a Rigblaster I've yet to play with.

In the past I have used the MFJ directional WiFi antenna with very good results (for regular WiFi though).
