Ray,

IF you are wanting to operate other bands and you are considering putting a vertical antenna any closer than 1/2 wavelength you might want to reconsider.  Not only can you get interaction between antennas (change in tuning, impedance, poor swr curve etc.) but you can get noise from the vertical radiated into the dipole.  Most Dxers try to avoid this scenario for just that reason.

You might want to consider a (so called) no resonant antenna.  This is an dipole that is as long as you can manage feed by open wire feed line like the standard window line from RADIOWORKS Inc. ( www.radioworks.com ) and then when you get the window line just outside your house entrance insert a RADIOWORKS remote balun.  Don't be fooled by much of the literature out on the internet... get the right balun..  This in turn connects to whatever coax you run into your house and you can easily tune this antenna with a very simple tuner it doesn't have to be anything special.

Now if you get the correct lengths by accident and that is what it is... you will be able to tune all of the amateur bands and on all segments. NOW.. this is a compromise antenna to be sure but it will and does work.

If you happen to be able choose the lengths then pick a half wave dipole on the lowest band you can manage and whatever feed line you need to get close to the house.

These antennas DO work well Tony KF3AK uses one and it even tunes the MARS bands. If you cant tune a particular band segment  just add/remove 15/20 ft of coax and try tune again.

If you have a problem installing this send me an email at my qrz address or on here.

hi All

ok question   if I work 20m ssb on a diapole can I put up a vertical that
is very close using CW and what band could I use?   There seems to be a
problem of using 20m ssb and 40m cw when I try it.  This using 100w on
diapole and qrp on the vertical which can do anyband.  Any suggestions from
the group?
