I read this with delight as I have used this kind of antenna to get into 145.410- from my shack in the basement so this antenna was about a foot off the outside ground while on the top shelf mag-mount 440/2m antenna on a cookie tin ~ 7-8" diameter.

It was no doubt not the best but if the outside antenna goes I'll at least have something inside until I can put something up outside again.

The work John/W6NBC did for this was wonderful and I'll have to actually do what he has done to match at least an antenna for 2m to one of the cookie tines I've saved for this purpose. I really like his 10" tin that hold the extendable antenna and some coax in it to take to a site.

My article in September QST received over 20 e-mail comments, questions, suggestions, and beratings. It looks like my compilation of these, along with a method for starting a UPS' inverter to get it going in the field, will be in an upcoming QST so keep tuned.
