Band is open now to FL, and I also worked a station in Aruba.  Either this morning heard some weak CW from Spain.  Possibly the band may open to Europe this afternoon, maybe.

keep in mind that unlike HF, the ions on 50 MHz are often in very small regions - so spotlight propagation is common - which tends to also help the smaller stations like mine with smaller pileups.  (here I run 100 watts into a homebrew 2 element quad).  possibly you existing wire antenna might also work, in some directions anyway.
