I'm forwarding NS3X's posting on the subject sans figure which prohibited the posting from getting through the reflector.

Congratulations on the new tower installation. I too have installed a

tower in my yard. I did not cad-weld my ground connections, although

this is the preferred method. Larry has a great deal of knowledge in

proper bond methods. Larry assisted in my tower grounding design.

What I had done is to slide a short piece of PVC with cap, over each

ground rod to prevent contact with the soil around the bond. In this

manner I am able to reach each bond connection for periodic cleaning

and re-bonding. As Jim suggests smear some conductive grease product

for sustainable conductive system (ground) connections.

There is a web source, http://www.esgroundingsolutions,com which

describes placement of ground rods, and grounding system 101 theory.

Although yours are already placed, for your information each ground

rod provides approximately 5,000 cubic feet of soil dispersion. This is

known as the "Sphere of Influence."

[Figure removed. See the White Paper in the link above.]

Enjoy the pile-ups!

Peter,

You may want to check electrical codes. In my line of work we exothermically bond all ground connections that are covered by dirt.

Check out "CADWELD ONE SHOT" for kits to do your ground connections.

Guys-

I just installed a grounding system for my tower. See the photos at: http://tinyurl.com/tower-grounding

Please critique and comment. Note that the system has not been tied to the service entrance ground (yet) as required by code.
