Phil and the list:

well this media stuff is a reflection of what's happening on the airwaves.  its not like we can turn on our SW radio to hear Radio Nederland or HCJB anymore.  that era of our childhood (some XYLs among us are thinking we haven't left it ....) is past history.  as a result we must enjoy radio a different way!  isn't life about adjusting - ok a good philosopher I am not nor is it something I relish to study!

fortunately we have ham tickets and most of us can install 'reasonable' transmitting antennas.  nice to chat with some operators in Europe this morning.  I had strung up a Beverage listening wire just to experience what it does!  I can live without it, but it makes listening on 160m more pleasant and occasionally does allow copying signals that I can't with my verticals.  there are also my fun QRP rigs 'crying out for use' and I will let the HW16 tubes glow for SKN.

while the media is inspiring it should merely lead to enjoying some RF with something.

I can imagine the board needs everyone's ideas for some interesting upcoming meetings.  Let's see I am sure KE3FL could have something interesting, or Ray/Kerri on their SOTA outings.  Does anyone have some unusual radio apparatus to demonstrate?  (If someone has a tube regen receiver I would love to play with it (see remark above ...) before or after a meeting.  I think John has a pedestrian style rig or two he could demonstrate.  I imagine you have better ideas than me!

HNY - I am to enjoy visiting with many at the club's holiday gathering this coming Saturday.

I called CQ and spoke with Sheral(SP?) today, 12/30/2013.

It is a sad day. Popular Communications is no more, as is World Radio and CQ VHF.

All four magazines will be combined in the February issue of CQ as the new, "CQ Plus" So that's, CQ, CQ VHF, Popular Communications, and World Radio. They expect to add about 50 pages to cover various parts of the other three magazines so I expect much will be lost in the combinations.

Last, if you had a printed version subscription to Popular Communications it will be rolled into a printed subscription of the new CQ Plus. This all starts in February 2014.
