MARS stands for Millitary Auxillary Radio System and it is run by the military under DOD charter. They are capable of providing all kinds of comms assistance to the local, federal and military establishment.  In Maryland they assist in manning the communnications at MEMA during events such as Hurricane Sandy for example.  THey also were at MEMA for other events such as the inauguartion in 2009 and will probably be there again in 2013.

THey provide intensive training in support of mission related goals. As past State Director for US Army MARS I can tell you it is a lot of fun but also can be a good bit of work .. especially if you take on a management roll.  For my money Army MARS is the ONLY group (our of Air Force, Army and Navy) to join.  The reason is that it has a paid staff and has more members than Navy and Air Force combined.  This translates to more support to the member. In Maryland Army has a really great group of guys that work as a real team.

All in all it was a lot of fun.  IF you are serious and interested contact Tony KF3AK  or Wayne N3UN for more information.. t hey can guide you in who to currently contact.   They are listed on the Carroll Clubs roster I believe.

Good Luck
