Ray,
Please do NOT ground both lines. that would be like grounding the ground shield and the center connector of coax, dead short, not a good idea!
Also keep ladder line OFF the ground unless you simply want to induct all your energy to the ground, also not a good idea if you want to make contacts.

thanks for the encouraging words Curt. So you have my interest so on the
ground connect the two ladder lines and then put out radials to just the
ground lead on the ladder line or both?
