Carroll County Amateur Radio Club Meeting January 9, 2012

  Andy, WO3L, called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM. 14  members and  
one guest in attendance.

Committees:
Treasury ?
Pete, W3GVX
November and December reports presented.

DCS ?
Steve, N3SB
ARES/RACES drill tomorrow night!  7:15 PM meet at the usual place and  
go over to the hospital to activate.


Repeaters ?
Andy Leeds, WO3L.
WX3F pointed out the repeater was low.  Something wrong with the lower  
antenna causing excessive SWR.  Andy switched the repeater to full  
duplex on the upper antenna.  However, heavy rain appears to affect  
the upper antenna.
285 machine, Sykesville, was not worked on over holidays.  Reschedule  
for March.  The problem is that it turns off automatically for an  
unknown reason.  May be due to a bug in the controller ? on key-up  
during ID, courtesy tone goes off during transmission rather than at  
the end ? not very courteous!

QSL Bureau -
Supported by the club and ARRL to send QSL cards around the world.   
Cards are sent to the Bureau by the pound.   Generally international  
QSL's only.

1st and 3rd Wednesday afternoons ? Andy volunteers at St. Johns in  
Westminster with middle schoolers for electronics.

Presentation:

Steve, N3SB, presented about a tube tester and his latest netbook  
computer.  Battery charging problem on his netbook.
Pat, N8PK, spoke about his latest PICAXE project.
