Nice of Jim to invite us all to a 2 nations-wide party.

An example exchange may help:

WB8YYY, you are 2089 B WX3B 76 MDC

WX3B, you are 116 A WB8YYY 76 OH (no I won't be in Ohio this year ....)

(the fewer the words you use the better!)

A (low power) and B (high power) are the most common, but do not be thrown if someone sends you S or Q.

If an operator needs part of an exchange sent again he/she will refer to these (in order) as:

    number
    precedent
    call
    check
    section

Note sections may be a state/province - or in the US part of a state.  PA is 2 sections, NY is 4 sections, CA a bunch).

A logging program helps 'keep you organized' but everyone used to use only paper.  If your rig has a PC interface, I suggest trying N1MM.  If not, something more basic like Writelog (if it still exists) will work.

CUL Curt

Subject: [K3PZN-List] Sweepstakes SSB: Starts THIS Saturday at 4:00pm

Dear CCARC SSB enthusiasts,

Even if you don't generally participate in contests, there is one coming up on Saturday that might just get you interested in them.

This weekend's event is the ARRL Sweepstakes contest, and unlike the simple "you're 59" (even when you can barely hear someone) You actually have to exchange a REAL report - it's a good way to practice your traffic handling skills.

In this contest, the "report" consists of:

A serial number, starting at #1

A power indicator, A = low power unassisted, B = high power unassisted, U= using packet assistance, and M = Multi-operator and includes high power and packet assistance.

Your call sign (repeated)

The year you were originally licensed

....and....your Section, which for many of us is MDC.

If this sounds interesting to you, turn on the radio, listen around and make some QSOs!

With the high sunspot number, there will be activity on 4 bands when the contest starts:  10,15,20 & 40!

Hope to hear some of you on the air this weekend.

73,

Jim    WX3B  (Planning to use K4B in Sweepstakes if all works out well)
