Steve,

I will be out of town till sometime late Saturday so won't be able to top-off any batteries prior to this event. I won't know my availability until I return, unpack, & take stock of the home situation.

I will comment that I would find a 12 hour shift as rather extensive.

It is very easy to handle impossible travel cinditions, I would stay home until the roads are clear.

As far as power outages I have enough batteries to last probably that length of time & if not they can be charged using the riding lawn mower, if I'm home.

Folks;

The Carroll County Office of Emergency Management is making
preparations for Hurricane Irene. We have been requested to get
ourselves ready in case the County needs our support. We will need to
be able to staff the EOC, the Club Radio Station, and possibly the
Hospital Radio Station as early as this Friday evening, depending on
what Irene does.

1) Please review your pre-activation checklists. Make preparations to
be able to go into action this Friday if needed. A hurricane can cause
power outages, and make travel impossible, so consider how you will
handle both of these situations for up to 72 hours if necessary.

2) Please let me know if you can be available to support the EOC, the
Club Radio Station, or possibly the Hospital Radio Station, for the
following shifts:

Shift 1: Friday Noon to Midnight
Shift 2: Saturday Midnight to Noon
Shift 3: Saturday Noon to Midnight
Shift 4: Sunday Midnight to Noon
Shift 5: Sunday Noon to Midnight
Shift 6: Monday Midnight to Noon

I will not plan on having anyone work two shifts in a row. So if
you're available all weekend and could support all the shifts, please
let me know that but don't be concerned that you'll end up being
scheduled to work the entire time!

Again, this is all just in the planning stage. Right now we need to
see if sufficient people are available to provide adequate support.

The County has not yet indicated if it will continue with plans for
the Emergency Expo at Lowe's this Saturday if Irene becomes a major
threat.
