One should not under-estimate people's extreme enthusiasm for this hobby -- see
below!

Interpreting -- he is operating a tube rig, and a very 'simple' receiver called
a regen (i built one recently, a solid state version, out of interest -- I don't
intend to use it for QSO's!).

and he will do it 'standing up' carry the rig!

often he is about in wilder areas - where there is less non-radio QRM.

work him as he will be 'rare DX' in terms of circumstances -- and a big signal
might be necessary!

yesterday in the midst of tilling my garden when taking a break I quickly nabbed
Z2/K0YY -- one of those African countries I don't own any kind of QSL from.
basically 'one burst of calls' as I thought my call might be worth a few dB
brought him into the log -- and a QSL should be easy (he does LOTW from home
station).  my little station and its feeble operator is slowly working toward
300 entities.

Have fun -- and tell us what's out-of-the-ordinary.

73 Curt

w0rw/pm will be on the air tonight...12 April 2011, 2100 EDT or (0100z , 13
April zulu day) on 7038.7 kHz,
and will be Pedestrian Mobile with a 10 foot whip and a 30 foot drag wire.
i have only one crystal so i will have to wait for a clear frequency.

I hold the Paraset (replica) like a football in my left arm sending with the
built-in key.

See my pictures in the ParasetBuilders Yahoogroup at
http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/ParasetBuilders/photos/view/7cb3?b=1

My vibrator power supply is in my backpack running on 2 - BB590 NiCads.
These batteries should be good for 2 hours.
To run on 12V  have to change the Paraset tubes over to 12 volt types.
I have worked coast to coast with this set up before with a 10 foot whip and a
drag wire.
If I don't answer you right away its probably because i am receiving +/- 15 kHz
plus 6.7 MHz shortwave band overload.
The short whip helps eliminate the BC band overload.
The transmitter is a 6V6 (tonight it will be a 12SK7) putting out 3 watts.
The receiver is a regen with 2  6SK7's  (SK as in dead).
For additional details go to the parasetbuilders at yahoogroups.com .
Bob Kellog (AE4IC) wrote a new Paraset article in the Fall 2009 edition of QRP
Quarterly, p.42.
It has great Paraset history too.
Dan, W7OIL, has a great How to Build a Paraset site at
http://members.shaw.ca/ve7sl/paraset.html
SM7EQL has a good web site at http://www.sm7eql.se/paraset/index.htm
