[K3PZN-List] HF Propagation Improving

Now that we are getting into fall, generally the higher bands (17-10m) improve -
when there is enough solar activity. Solar flux is in the 80's - which tends to
support some propagation on 15m.

I just worked VP8LP on SSB down in the Falklands - which was mostly good timing
(and some directional) propagation as my 100w / vertical tend not to break too
many pile-ups. I guess I didn't know how many people were calling since you
don't tend to hear them on these higher frequencies due to the skip zone. So I
called and he called right back.

Not every QSO will happen like this (unless you have a superior station, and
even then geography can put you in disfavor). Do operate your rigs and check
those higher bands - sometimes they can mostly be quiet, but you can find some
distant places on the air. Note that openings across the equator and toward the
equator will happen first.

Glad I replaced my broken coax yesterday to my 20-10m vertical (yes it was
bought in 1989). Enjoy the airwaves.
