As a follow-up to our President's post below:
Saturday --
A small group will meet at the FTC at about 3:30 to pick up the signs,
stakes, ticket drum, PA System, etc.
Setup at the Ag Center starts at 4:00 PM. We have stakes to put in for
the fence. We also have tables and chairs to set up inside the
buildings. While this is going on, a small, elite team will be setting
up the hamfest signs along key routes to the Ag Center. If all goes
well we should be done by about 6:00 PM.
Sunday --
Festivities start at 6:00 AM. Our President says he'll have coffee
available. We'll have vendors pouring in and setting up inside, and
tailgaters to get parked outside. We'll start seeing regular attendees
before the sun comes up. The ticket sales belts will be prepared and
ready to go. We'll need at least 10 people to get through this initial
flurry of activity. We'll have the club table to watch, prizes to take
care of, PA announcements to make, etc.
By 9:00 this initial team of people will be ready for a break, so
we'll be ready for 10 fresh sets of hands to keep the event going.
We'll have two entry points that need to be covered for ticket sales,
and our handicapped parking lot will need to be attended to as well.
By 11:30 or so the influx of attendees will have dropped and we can
all take a break and grab a bite to eat. But there will be plenty of
things to see and do. Besides having a walk through the best hamfest
in Carroll County, we'll also have a group of our members led by Pat
N8PK launching a balloon with a 433 MHz beacon transmitter on board.
Tracking the flight and copying the telemetry downlink is really fun -
for kids of all ages. We're also going to have a group from AMRAD to
demonstrate how to assemble and solder Surface Mount boards in a
toaster oven. The boards they're building are actually Software
Defined Radio receivers that AMRAD has been designing as a club
project. They've also been busy working on the software used to filter
and demodulate the digital signals these receiver boards produce.
There's a whole lot of very hi-tech stuff going on - and they'll be
happy to show you exactly how it works.
Teardown and cleanup starts around 1:00 PM. The tables need to be
folded and stored, along with the chairs. We'll have some sweeping and
trash collection to do. Outside we'll have the fence stakes to pull
out, and some trash cleanup. The signs will need to be retrieved. If
we have enough help we can have it all done before 3:00 PM.
By the way, proceeds from this year's hamfest will help the club buy a
Honda EU2000 generator to support Emergency Communications, and Field
Day activities.
Hope to see all of you this weekend!
