Unless I am mistaken (which happens ...), tonite's presentation will be by John
Hart K3KWO on pedestrian radio operations.  Its a different style, to be out of
the AC (didn't John operate from a 'cool' box at FD ... ??) and creature
comforts into 'the natural environment.'  The gear travels 'on the operator' -
enough typically to launch a SSB or other signal to the ionosphere and back
down.  One must erect an adequate HF antenna that can be carried about, as well
as enough RF (and DC power) to make the QSO happen.  I remember two QSO's with
pedestrian ops -- one was using a QRC military-style rig and Pikes Peak (I could
literally hear QSB while he was walking) and other was the 'Buddi-pole' guy
testing his prototype dipole in California.  Others may carry their gear to
their operating destination, or I kid you not, even enlist goats to carry it for
them.  It's literally field day anytime!

It's nice to hear about different styles of ham radio - we literally share the
same ionosphere.  I look forward to seeing you there!

PS - suggestions to the board on future meeting topics are always welcome,
whether you wish to give the presentation or not.  I think November is already
set with a very highly charged topic.
