[K3PZN-List] Fw: [QRP-L] New LF/HF Propagation ebook

Yes 20m is propagating well!  I heard a VK2, pointed my little 2-element beam
that direction - and he promptly found me amongst others calling.  This was
about a half hour before sunset, on CW.  Earlier I heard a VK on SSB, but he had
lots of customers -- his antenna is 4 stacked 5 element Yagi's !  (One can have
some fun with lesser antennas - including a single element.

Those with only 100 watts and basic antennas can work some DX 'right now'!   15m
(and lower bands also) should be open for SSB -- and all of HF for CW.  Folk in
Europe and Africa are quite active - so put your rig to use!  If a more involved
QSO floats your boat - tune around for some one talkative.  Meanwhile, be
sensitive to matching the info the DX station provides - as those with limited
time wish to exchange reports and sometimes names).  Log your contacts with your
PC - so you can recall their names next time you QSO.

For those who will be operating SSB SS this coming weekend -- expect you may
need to operate on at least 4 bands to get all the multipliers!  KH6 can be
found on 15m in late afternoon, but you might find it easier (as I did) to work
KH6 on 40m before sunrise.  KL7 is also the same general time.  You may find
your west coast multipliers literally on any band - some were worked on 80m.
Sections that may be rare include VE4, NWT, Newfoundland - surprising to me, and
another surprise I found NE more rare than the Dakotas or the 7-land states.
(Your mileage may vary based on who participates in SSB event!  I did my time on
CW, so I will only have time for casual SSB -- to store up some time for CQWW
and ARRL DX. )

Fellow amateurs - excellent reading on the topic of propagation!  I recommend
you download this excellent series of articles while it is available.

I have been making a few CW contacts on 12m so it seems to be open somewhere
much of the time during daylight, even with a vertical.  I have also been doing
some SSB on 15m to Europe and Africa.  Enjoy and appreciate the propagation!

My shack faces a window, and looking up are our bird feeders.  Yes these
critters may need a little help getting thru the winter - so I will be keeping
these ones fed.  We took our bikes down to the C&O canal yesterday - maybe for
the final time before spring?  We'll see ...

Steve G0KYA and Alan G3NYK, of the Radio Society of Great Britain's
RSGB) Propagation Studies Committee, have released a free ebook called
'Understanding LF and HF Propagation'
Here is the link to download the 1mb pdf document:

http://www.infotechcomms.co.uk/Understanding_LF_and_HF_propagation.pdf
How cool is that ?

Also you can listen for my QRP (1 Watt erp) LF Beacon (WA2XRM) on 479.703
kHz.
It is sending QRSs10  (Really slow CW), It sends 10 second long Dits and 30
second Dashes.
That gets through the QRN really well.
i have had reports from coast to coast at night.
You can decode it by ear or with ARGO computer decoding.
Send me your report and i will send you a Long Wave SWL QSL card.
