[K3PZN-List] Candidate Member Building Project (June QST) ?

Did anyone notice the ~50 watt amplifier project in the June QST ? Kinda cool to have that many watts so inexpensively. As designed it is a useful booster amplifier for a QRP rig to add some extra 'presence' on 80 through 20 meters. The cost mentioned is something like $30, particularly when the parts are bought 'in bulk.' Note the amplifier can be used for all modes. (While I do have the 100 watt amp in my K2, I have a lot of other rigs that would be nice to operate with an extra 10 dB more output power).

If we can find a handful of us interested in building one of these (perhaps in the fall ?) - we could do a group order, builders pay for the parts and then we build. There is safety in numbers just in case one (or all) of our projects need a little debugging. And perhaps someone among us knows how to tap holes (ok I have seen it done).

Although I confess to sometimes being an 'appliance operator' (e.g. I am ready to buy a new appliance rig) - it adds to the experience to also operate well-performing gear that you assemble yourself - just like the pioneers did. Let me know if anyone is game - and if we have a quorum we can move forward.

As many folk are also interested in micro-controllers, I can imagine one of those projects emerging also which would be nice. Who knows someone might even suggest a group build on an antenna project.
