1st thing is to pull the drive you installed today and make sure it
still boots off the internal disk.
The USB disk should be hotplug unless something very strange is going
on, so with the system booted connect that device and make sure the OS
sees it and things are OK.
To work out the boot issues check the BIOS boot order and see if it
added the new USB device to the top causing the SATA or IDE drive to
fall off the bottom of the list.
