I may have done something stupid but can't quite tell.

I may need another pair of eyes on something.

 

I installed a 500GB hard drive into an old PC 

(not quite that old, 2003-ish maybe).

All was well, I copied my data to it and only had to

fix the bootloader.

For a week it worked without issues.

 

Today I had everything turned off, plugged it all into

 a new surge protector, plugged in a second usb 

external drive and turned it all back on.

 

On reboot all I get is the PXE net boot option and a 

message that no boot device is found and I should 

the cables.

 

I tried 3 IDE cables and 2 power cables, I cannot get

the IDE drives (either the new one or the old one) to

be recognized.

 

DVD/CD still works, I can run off boot discs or LiveCDs
