Carroll County Amateur Radio Club
Meeting Minutes, 14 September 2009
Vice-President Rich Mitchell, N3III called the meeting to order at
7:35 PM. Twelve members and one guest were present.
The meeting started with introductions around the room.
Evening Presentation:
Pete Morton W3GVX gave a photographic tour presentation of the Radio
Canada International Shortwave Broadcast station. Included were photos
of the master control center, a number of 100 kW & 250 KW
transmitters, a vast antenna system, and the feedlines. Pete also
included some antenna modeling plots to demonstrate how well the HR
Curtain multi-bay dipole arrays work.
Pat Kilroy N8PK gave a presentation on PickEtSat II. Pats transmitter
runs quite a bit less power, but flies at a much higher altitude.
Pats team will be launching SimSat-4 on Saturday September 26.
Announcements:
The next CCARC meeting will be on Monday October 12th 7:30 PM at the
Emergency Services Training Center in Westminster.
The next Board meeting will be on Wednesday September 23rd, 7:30 PM at
the Emergency Services Training Center in Westminster.
From the mailbag:
No mail was received.
Secretarys Report: The report was accepted as published on the reflector.
Treasurers Report: Pete W3GVX presented the treasurers report,
detailing current balances, income, and expenses. The report was
accepted by the membership present.
Committee Reports:
ARES / RACES: The next RACES Drill will be on Tuesday October 13th.
Everyone is reminded that the CARET Net is held every Tuesday evening
at 8:30 PM on the 145.410 repeater. The Simulated Emergency Test will
be held on Saturday October 3. All ARES members, and anyone else who
wants to play, are encouraged to participate.
Repeater: The repeater systems and BBS appear to be operating fine.
DCS Committee: Will be meeting on the fourth Monday of the month.

General Discussions:
Hamfest: The Mason-Dixon Hamfest is coming up on October 25. Set-up
will be on late Saturday Afternoon. Volunteers are needed to support
the event. There will be a club table for members to sell their
equipment.
Pat N8PK mentioned that the National AMSAT Meeting will be on October
8-11 near the BWI Airport. Visit www.amsat.org for all the details.
Chuck N3TOT has several large UPS style 12V Gel-Cells for sale - $40
each. The batteries weigh about 70 pounds. They were manufactured in
late 2005, and have been removed from UPS service.
