Anthony

you are in good hands checking things out at Jim's place. given that you live close by, you may find yourself in the operators chair at a contest this fall! if the rig is fine, try the simpler antenna arrangement. sometimes things we can get a way with on 40m won't work on 10m. (if its the rig, i could lend you a 10m only rig to try).

as for longer range antenna ideas, a Moxon beam or a Cubical Quad can be made for 10m homebrew style. i had a quad last sunspot cycle made with PVC and wire - i plan to build something more durable when sunspots start to rise again.

PS - Jack hasn't been involved with ham radio in a while. he is a brilliant, class guy (who used to work for a former US VP among other things) - we should be thrilled he hangs around with us!
